SciMedMedia delivers award-winning enterprise software, interactive training solutions and simulations, and complete commercial strategies to the biotech and healthcare industries. Since 2005, I’ve worked on several instructional design projects at SciMed, including training simulators for physicians to earn CMEs, as well as game-based instructional programs for healthcare management professionals. Notable projects are listed below:
OBI Training Program (instructional and game designer): Designed simulation- and game-based training tools focused on developing interpersonal and critical thinking skills in the context of a business management environment. Specific games include a story-based tool to understand and develop decision trees, and a turn-based activity providing a model for influence expansion in a closed system.
- Designed the functionality, architecture, and UI of a non-linear dialog simulation authoring tool.
- Worked with client and SMEs to define the training’s instructional objectives and learning outcomes.
- Developed assessment criteria that identified relevant core competencies and behaviors, as well as performance indicators and levels, for training that spanned multiple modalities.
- Wrote the narration/script for a 45-minute branching dialog simulation, spanning multiple scenes and environments.
Virtual Doctor’s Office (instructional and narrative designer): http://bit.ly/1k8tpp8. An immersive, interactive tool for physicians to earn their required annual CME (Continuing Medical Education) credits.
- Worked with SMEs to define the program’s feature set and write the simulation narration.
- Utilized this feature set to derive the project’s functional spec and UI.
- Created a narration authoring template which was used to create a series of trainings.
- Attended green screen video shoots and assisted with audio direction.
- Managed project artists, programmers, and media support staff to ensure timely delivery of product.
- Provided updates and progress reports to the Director of Product Development.
- Gave project presentations to third parties and potential business partners.
